These are the items you’re looking for.
Not a very long time ago (about last week) in a galaxy not very far away (the MR PORTER headquarters in west London, to be precise), we found ourselves pondering the latest movie in the Star Wars series. Solo: A Star Wars Story centres on Han Solo, played by Mr Alden Ehrenreich. So far, the film has been raking in positive reviews, and while we’re looking forward to seeing it when it comes out in the UK next week, we need to pass the time somehow, so we came up with the idea of working out what clothes our favourite Star Wars characters might choose from MR PORTER. Bear with us. The costumes worn in Star Wars – many of them conceived by the late costume designer Mr John Mollo – are iconic, but what would Yoda, Chewie and company choose if they were free to roam on our site with a discount card? Scroll on, young Padawan. We hear linen shirts are going to be big on Tatooine this summer…
HAN SOLO

Han Solo is the archetypal intergalactic hero. The space cowboy has outrun imperial star ships, shot down stormtroopers, and defended the galaxy against the dark side while hyperspeeding around in his Millennium Falcon. A rugged adventurer, Solo would demand a wardrobe worthy of his bravado (and never-changing uniform) – this leather jacket from RRL is pre-distressed to make it look like it’s been around the galaxy a few times, and lends it a roguish edge. Han Solo also wouldn’t be himself without a collarless shirt, and although Mr Ehrenreich’s is black where Mr Harrison’s was white, thankfully this linen grandad-collar one from Club Monaco comes in both shades.

LANDO CALRISSIAN

Played by Mr Billy Dee Williams in the original Star Wars trilogy, Calrissian’s role is reprised by man of the moment Mr Donald Glover in Solo. The rakish smuggler is a sharp dresser unafraid of vivid colour, donning a yellow jerkin-style shirt and scarf in the movie, so we think he’d favour the intrepid charms of a Gucci scarf, and a colourful overshirt from Freemans Sporting Club. (Sadly, we don’t currently stock capes on site.)

CHEWBACCA

Wookiees rely on a thick coat of hair rather than clothes but, given he’s such a fixture by Han Solo’s side, we imagine Chewbacca would feel a little left out if his partner in galactic crime got some new garms and he didn’t. So, what would he plump for? That bandolier he’s always wearing could do with some time off – so how about a Balenciaga belt bag, for the weekend perhaps? And, to keep that mane fresh, he might like Sachajuan’s Ocean Mist Volume Conditioner – ideal for the well-groomed wookiee. RRRARRWHHGWWR!

STORMTROOPER

Imperial Stormtroopers follow a strict sartorial diet of ultra-polished monochrome armour. It’s a no-nonsense, shoot-to-kill look which somehow lends itself very much to a lot of the streetwear on our site of late. These chunky, retrofuture-ish Raf Simons x Adidas Ozweego sneakers are practically a Stormtrooper in the form of a shoe, for instance, along with half of the Off-White and Craig Green we’re currently stocking. Our trends presently include workwear, checks, and 1970s eyewear, but we think there’s a strong case for adding Storm Trooper hypebeast to the roster.

C-3PO

Much like Chewbacca, the gentlemanly android C-3PO roams the galaxy technically without clothes, wearing nothing but the golden spare parts he was built from – and a constant expression of shock. Favouring good manners and a terribly British accent (despite being fluent in more than six million languages), we think that if Threepio were to wear clothes, he would be quite at home in some Savile Row tailoring – a velvet tuxedo jacket from Thom Sweeney finished off with a Turnbull & Asser bow tie, perhaps. Everything the consummate gentleman / droid needs.

YODA

Known for his unparalleled wisdom and command of the Force, we’re confident Master Yoda would choose some suitably erudite brands for his wardrobe. His monastic woollen robe, for instance, is rather Japanese in its design, so we think the Jedi master would appreciate this sagely linen jacket from Okayama-based label KAPITAL. And we know Yoda doesn’t really do footwear, but if he did, well, he might be interested in some Yuketen sandals – which will dry off easily after a tramp through the swamps of Dagobah and do well in a desert landscape or two. Snappy dresser, you are.
