Introducing MR PORTER RESELL: How To Clear Out Your Wardrobe With Ease

01.

Give it a proper clean

The Reflaunt team grades the condition of each item it receives before deciding on the final listing price. The difference in price between an item graded “moderate” and “excellent” can be 10 to 15 per cent or more, so it’s in your interest to ensure that your item receives the highest grade possible. The best way of doing this is to invest in a professional clean. Yes, it might cost a bit extra, but if it results in your item receiving a higher condition – and a higher resale price – your investment will be returned with interest.

02.

Offer a true retail experience

When it comes to shopping for pre-loved clothes, it’s the little things that are so often missing – the tags, the bags and everything else that contributes to that “retail” feeling – which keep potential buyers at bay. To assuage any doubts, try as best you can to recreate that original retail experience. Still have the boxes and bags? Include them. Dust bags for shoes? Include them, too. If you’re a real stickler for detail, perhaps you’ve even kept the tags. Good for you – it all helps. And while this advice is of little use to anyone who has already disposed of the tags, bags and boxes, it’s something to bear in mind for any future purchases that you might one day look to resell.

03.

Know what sells

Like any marketplace, the secondhand market for fashion is controlled by demand. If you’re selling something that people want, you’re going to have a much easier time of it. To that end, we’d recommend cross-referencing the contents of your wardrobe with MR PORTER’s Best Sellers. As you’d expect, there’s plenty of new-season fashion to be found here, but there are also examples of what’s known in the industry as “continuity”, product that has been available in some shape or form for multiple seasons and shows no sign of going away any time soon. While you’re poring over the Best Sellers, take a look at The Essentials, too. These are items that have stood the test of time and, if cared for properly, should be just as desirable now as when you bought them.

04.

Keep checking in

So, your items have been taken away by courier to MR PORTER RESELL and they’ve been accepted for sale. End of story, right? Not quite. You can still check back in on the MR PORTER RESELL portal while you wait for Reflaunt to find a buyer for your items. If you feel that they’re taking too long to sell, you have the option of lowering the price. If you’d rather keep them at their original selling price for longer, make sure you opt out of any automatic price corrections.

Now that you’ve learned the tricks, why not give it a go yourself? Head to the link below to unlock the value in your wardrobe and begin your reselling journey today. And remember: you can get an extra 10 per cent on top of the sale price if you opt for MR PORTER store credit.
