What To Look Out For In the MR PORTER Grooming Box

Words by The Daily Team

26 May 2017

The ultimate collection of skincare and hair essentials for summer.

Every now and again, it’s nice to shake things up in the grooming department. Why? Because you can, of course; but also because the field of men’s skincare is so rapidly expanding that there’s always some new bit of technical wonderfulness on the horizon, squeezable-tube-wise, that you probably haven’t even heard of yet. To facilitate such ongoing experimentation, we have made it a regular habit to offer up our MR PORTER Grooming Kit, a simple (but beautiful) white box containing a range of samples of products new and classic from the best of our grooming category on site. The latest edition, featuring items from Buly 1803, Baxter of California, Clinique For MenLab Series and more, is out today. For a full list of the delights contained within, be sure to click through to its product page. In the meantime, thought, we’d like to introduce you to three of its more intriguing products:

Allies of Skin Overnight Mask (50ml)

Singapore’s Mr Nicolas Travis founded Allies of Skin in 2013 with the mission of delivering a new kind of skincare to contemporary professionals – men that are often on the go and don’t necessarily have time to apply seven different products to their face every morning and evening. Accordingly, Allies of Skin products are not only packed with active ingredients, so that they’re true multitaskers, but are based around the idea of masking – that is, forming a protective barrier that lasts for many hours. The overnight mask, which should be applied before you go to bed (after a quick spritz of the brand’s toner mist), is a particularly useful product in that it contains Retinol, a revered anti-ageing ingredient that smooths wrinkles and improves skin tone. It’s such a powerful ingredient that it can often cause irritation, but Allies of Skin uses a stabilised form it calls Ally-R, which is much more gentle on the skin.

Patricks SH2 Deep Clean Shampoo (60ml) and CD2 Moisturizing Conditioner (60ml)

As one of the first brands to be stocked on MR PORTER when we launched in 2011, we’ve long trusted Patricks’ signature pomades when it comes to keeping our hair perfectly coiffed. Which is why we were particularly excited when the Sydney-based brand launched its range of shampoos and conditioners earlier this year. This nifty set comprises travel-sized versions of Patricks’ SH2 and CD2 shampoo and conditioner, for thick to normal hair. Like the corresponding styling products, these not only smell marvellous, with their notes of tobacco leaf and vetiver, but contain the Patricks Recovery Compound, a formula that targets hair loss and protects against UV damage. The shampoo is specifically designed to offer a really deep cleansing experience, removing all traces of the products that other shampoos might struggle to kick. The conditioner will protect your locks from environmental and chemical damage.

Buly 1803 Crème Pogonotomienne Shaving Cream (10ml)

If you haven’t already tried Buly 1803’s range of potently scented, traditional, French-made grooming products, now is the time. Because they really are like nothing else out there. This particular formulation, a shaving cream made with almond oil, is scented with Hinoki wood, for an invigorating, sublimely smoky effect that will help you get your eyes open in the morning. The brand advises applying it to damp skin after applying a hot towel for a few seconds.
