All We Want For Christmas 2015

19 November 2015

We got a little bit excited and wrote our MR PORTER Wish Lists early this year.

Santa Claus (or Father Christmas – same guy, different accent) has his work cut out for him. On Christmas Eve, taking into consideration time zones and the rotation of the earth, he has 31 hours to deliver gifts to around 91.8 million homes. That’s almost 292,000 tonnes of LEGO, Xboxes and remote-controlled cars being transported at 650 miles per second (as calculated by MR PORTER’s office intern – don’t quote us on this).

Impressive, indeed. But fictional, unfortunately. However, where you might, as a child, have found festive joy at the thought of an overweight man in a red suit, you can now find it at MR PORTER. He’s a little more eclectic with his style, looks after himself a bit better and is a connoisseur of finer things than sherry and mince pies. What’s more, his delivery service is a far superior operation. It is global, and it is available 365 days a year. (Which is more than can be said for our ruddy-cheeked friend, who only works one.) And with more than 350 brands offering everything from  to  – there is little that MR PORTER cannot provide this holiday season.

So, what do you want for Christmas? Below, we’ve each chosen three things we’d like from MR PORTER before 25 December. By all means, use our picks as inspiration for you or a loved one. Alternatively, you could always buy them for us. We’re big believers in charity, especially at this magical time of year.

“Seeing as I’ve been so well behaved, I think I deserve to wake up to a  coat under my tree this year. I love unstructured outerwear as it allows me to sport a layer or two in winter, and the cashmere fabric makes this coat very tactile. In terms of stocking fillers, I’m a big fan of everything that  makes, so this cardholder will go down a treat. It has the perfect number of compartments and is so slim it won’t feel cumbersome in my jeans. Lastly, a small  comb would be very welcome in my jacket pocket when I need a quick hair fix. After all, I’m totally worth it.”

“I’ve been hunting for some black suede  for a while, and ever since we spoke to  about putting together an exclusive capsule collection, these have been on my mind. They are constructed with Goodyear welts, and are handmade in Italy, so they look smart but are so comfortable I could be wearing . They are perfect for a casual day in the office, Sunday in the pub or Boxing Day dinner with my in-laws. I’m not one for getting too festive with my attire – so I’d want to complete the look with a pair of black  and a black cashmere . Bah humbug.”

“Dear Santa, I have been particularly good this year. I have always made sure to use , I have never so much as touched a clip-on , and I even took time to learn  (without burning them!). With this in mind, can I please have this handsome  herringbone wool-blend overcoat? Its relaxed simplicity makes it an essential to dress up over a , and it can easily be worn over a colourful Christmas  or a , too. Oh, and I’m an Italian size 48. Thank you. Yours, Jacopo Maria.”

“Whereas others know the holiday season is upon us by the sounds of carols wafting on the breeze, or even, perhaps, the jingling of bells, I tend to hear a voice, emerging from the rustling pine needles, that says “, Missoni, Missoni, Missoni, Missoni”. I live in futile hope that Santa will one day feel flush enough to bestow one of these rather festive sweaters upon me. But even a Missoni , or a pair of these  (which are about as brilliant as socks can possibly be), would be more than enough to get me yelping, as if possessed: “God bless us, everyone!”

“Having managed to avoid it for all of these years, I’ve finally been talked into going on a skiing holiday. My trip coincides with the opening of MR PORTER’s dedicated , so while I’ll almost certainly be the worst skier on the mountain, I hopefully won’t be the worst-dressed. Speaking of which, if you’re in the Trois Vallées area in March and happen to spot a man in a gilet careening helplessly down the nursery slopes, do stop and say hi.”

“I’ve always struggled to find the perfect : they’re either too floppy, or too stiff, or there are too many straps or buckles just waiting to get caught on something. The length can also be tricky: some are too short to comfortably cover a ; others so long they look as if you’ve just stepped off a fishing trawler. This  raincoat ticks all the boxes: it’s a simple cut, a practical length, and the smart pinstripe gives it a point of difference that will catch the eye, and not a door handle. As a stocking filler, I’m never disappointed with . I’d also like an almond oil soap set by . The soaps have a great, gentlemanly smell.”

“As I'm originally from Australia, the colder months of the holiday season in the Northern Hemisphere always take me by surprise. And, too distracted by the exciting prospect of snow (which is still a novelty for me), I rarely prepare myself practically for winter weather in London. This year will be different, however, thanks to this sweater from . The knit is just that little bit softer and thicker than anything else I’ve seen, which makes it perfect for the Christmas chill. And it is so versatile that I’ll be wearing it well into the New Year – when the novelty of the season has worn off, but the chill still lingers.”
