THE JOURNAL

Looking for a chic, lightweight scarf to protect your neck from the cool of the evening? Our edit of new arrivals has got you covered.
Some of the many joys of living in a temperate climate: you’re reasonably safe from dust storms and plagues of locusts; your chocolate doesn’t turn into a gloopy coulis before you’ve had the chance to get it home from the supermarket; and you get the opportunity to sport a snazzy summer scarf on those lazy alfresco evenings when the rosé is flowing and the mellow breezes start making their presence felt. Scroll down for three stylish examples, and what to wear them with.
FLOWER POWER
Petrol, jade and mint. No, not the ingredients in our favourite combustible summer cocktail, but the colour combo of the vintage-inspired floral pattern that adorns this midnight blue silk-satin scarf from Paul Smith. This would add lustre when tucked under the lapels of a tuxedo, but will prove equally efficacious wrapped round a linen jacket, like this one from Oliver Spencer, as the cicadas start to sing.
SUPER TROOPER
You wouldn’t have to be dragooned into wearing this Loro Piana “cavalry” scarf – it’s woven from a luxurious blend of cashmere and silk, and is as nifty as, well, your average horseback-mounted warrior. It will stand out however you style it, but we suggest you set it off with a lightweight blazer, like this one from Caruso, to give it that extra charge.
THREADED BLISS
In life, they say, you have to take the rough with the smooth. This truism is given scarf-shaped form with Rick Owens’ charcoal cashmere-and-silk-blend offering, whose featherlight construction is counterbalanced by its elegantly distressed edging. Pair it with an equally pliable leather jacket – like this one from Isaia, which has smooth ribbed trims and pockets lined in plush red velvet.
