The Summer Of Mauve: Five Ways To Wear The Colour Of The Moment
Words by Emma Pradella
1 June 2022

We’ve already listed more than enough reasons why you should wear pink here. However, if fiery fuchsias and powdery peaches aren’t quite your bag, there’s a more wearable shade making its way to the top of our style ranks. Enter mauve, a soft hue that sits somewhere in-between pink, lilac, taupe and lavender – and has most famously been championed by Jay-Z, whose Frère suit at the 2020 Roc Nation brunch is still the stuff of menswear legend. In the Brooklyn rapper’s own words, it’s always a mauvelous day to wear, ahem, mauve. Just see for yourself below.

01.
The single-buttoned SAINT LAURENT number
Use SAINT LAURENT’s blazer to break the mould on traditional dress codes and make an impact in a sea of navy and grey suits. It’s tailored from a combination of wool and mohair to achieve a substantial handle and finished with a single-button closure. Wear yours with wide-legged trousers and stacked jewellery.

02.
The double-breasted Richard James jacket
Since setting up shop on London’s tailoring street par excellence back in the 1990s, Richard James has been considered largely responsible for bringing a splash of colour to Savile Row. This semi-structured, double-breasted suit jacket is a good example. It’s cut from washed linen for a slub texture and left entirely unlined.

03.
The unstructured Sid Mashburn blazer
The Kincaid No 1 blazer is one of Sid Mashburn’s signatures – the brand describes it as a great knock-around jacket that’s “slimmish but never skinny”. This punch-hued version is tailored without any canvassing from the brand’s equally lightweight and breathable Cotolino twill (a combination of cotton and linen).

04.
The pale Paul Smith design
The pale shade of Paul Smith’s linen blazer reads as neutral, and with summer outdoor events invitations piling up, we have no doubt that it’ll work double time in your wardrobe. Keep it breezy with a grandad-collared shirt and colour-coordinated drawstring trousers.

05.
The embroidered Fendi silhouette
Fendi’s linen-blend blazer is the business for looking the part in more formal settings when the weather heats up. A couple of extra pockets (one embroidered with the house’s name) and the irregular texture set it apart from classic styles.
