THE JOURNAL

If you’re familiar with mid-century architecture, chances are you’ve come across the work of Danish architect and furniture designer Mr Arne Jacobsen. His contribution to architectural functionalism – and the success he enjoyed with his industrial buildings, covetable chairs and watercolour paintings – served as the main source of inspiration behind Mr P.’s latest line-up.
From wavy prints like the curved lines of Copenhagen’s Bellevue theatre seating to geometric jacquard patterns that recall the mechanical movements of 1950s industrial machines. The collection features an assortment of fluid shirts, relaxed, unlined blousons, workwear jackets and the kind of lightweight knits that you’d throw on on breezy summer evenings.
We’re less than a month away from the much-awaited, longest day of the year, so what better time to refresh your wardrobe ahead of the balmier days? Here are five stylish ways to do so with a little help from Mr P.
01.
Try pastel tones

Out with the old, in with the new, we say. Ditch muted, bland and trans-seasonal tones for a brighter colour palette – one filled with soft, pastel-hued shades. Variations of blue, pink, yellow and green can be your one-way ticket to 1980s Miami or, in the case of Mr P.’s sky-tinted blue, to Klampenborg’s Bellevue Beach, once one of Denmark’s most popular seaside destinations.
02.
Layers on layers

Nothing presents a trickier sartorial challenge than deciding what to wear on days when summer isn’t showing its true colours. Your best bet is to embrace lightweight layers, and Mr P.’s new collection offers plenty of inspiration and viable options. A jacket made from suede or nubuck – both known for their soft and pliable texture – won’t feel too heavy when layered over an overshirt or lightweight knit.
03.
Sport the stripes

Bellevue Beach’s lifeguard towers – designed by Jacobsen for Copenhagen’s seaside complex in the 1930s – may look like they came straight out of a Mr Wes Anderson movie. But, in this case, they’re just what inspired the stripey motif on Mr P.’s bomber jacket. Consider it a modern twist on Breton styles, or simply a stylish choice to inject a subtle dose of pattern into otherwise neutral outfits.
04.
Pattern up

If there’s a season that allows for a tad of harmless sartorial lunacy, summer is surely it. It’s the time to throw the style rules out the window and experiment with prints, bold colours and patterns. For a start, don’t mind if we suggest Mr P.’s wavy motif, whose curved lines are inspired by the seats of Bellevue’s theatre, known as the architectural expression of “the dream of a modern lifestyle” (and as one of Jacobsen’s most prominent works). Here, you’ll find it all over Mr P.’s terry hoodie, made from organic cotton yarn that’s been combed for softness.
05.
Add sunglasses

This season marks Mr P.’s foray into sunglasses. As part of our summer collection, we’ve enlisted the help of London-based eyewear brand Cubitts to design a series of frames that will make the fraught task of shopping for sunnies all the more pleasant. Plus, they look great with Mr P.’s geometric knitted shirt. Much like all of Cubitts’ collections, the joint capsule rests on solid foundations, from high-quality materials, such as Mazzucchelli’s lightweight yet sturdy acetate, to exquisite craftsmanship. Each pair of sunglasses goes through 50 individual production stages. Need we say more?
