THE JOURNAL

It’s officially summer in New York. The humidity is high and temperatures are nearing 90°F (32ºC), which means it’s time to start dressing cool. While I’m (sadly) not spending my Fourth of July weekend at the beach, that doesn’t mean I can’t dress like I am. Here’s what I’ll be wearing, or rather what I wish I’ll be wearing, this holiday weekend.
The sneakers
The swim shorts
The key to a good pair of swimming trunks is finding a pair that you can wear in the pool and then out to eat. These shorts by Palm Angels work for both. Just throw on a tee or a tank top and you’re good to go.
The shirt
For hot summer nights, when a tank top might not be appropriate, I opt for a camp-collar shirt. This one from Prada is awesome and will even pair well with those Palm Angel shorts.
The SPF
The number-one rule of skincare is to always wear sunscreen, even if you’re not sunbathing by the pool or on a hot roof. Erno Laszlo’s Phelityl Day Lotion makes for an easy way to bring SPF15 broad-spectrum UV protection into your everyday routine.
The sunglasses
Since you can’t apply Erno Laszlo’s lotion to your eyes, or at least I wouldn’t recommend it, you need a good pair of sunglasses to protect your peepers from those same UV rays. I’m preferential to these retro-feeling Balenciaga shades. They’re classic, but the mirrored lenses add that extra flair.
