Despite Stone Island’s longstanding use of its instantly recognisable insignia, the brand seemingly isn’t a huge fan of labels. As the blurb for _Stone Island: Storia _(yes, it even has its own book) explains, it can be defined as neither strictly fashion, nor luxury, nor streetwear. Instead, it’s a pretty nifty combination of all three, designed to appeal to the “Milanese Paninari, British soccer diehards and North American hip-hop fans” in equal measure. And if none of those are you? Well, we’re betting that you’ll still take a shine to one or two pieces from the new collection anyway.

Stone Island’s strength lies in its tried-and-tested formula: research, followed by a lot more research. Function drives the silhouettes, innovation fuels the choice of textiles and experimentation powers the company’s colour laboratory, which has developed more than 60,000 different dye recipes over the years – and no, we haven’t added any zeros to that figure. Ready to see what’s new? Here are 10 styles that have just got here.

01.

The military jacket

Taking more than one cue from military outerwear, this jacket has also been garment-dyed to get the army-green colour spot on. What’s more, the fabric has been lightly brushed, so it feels a little lived-in from the moment you slip it on.

02.

The cargo sweatpants

Hunting for sweatpants that you’ll be forgiven for wearing out of the house? This black pair has got your back. They’re cut for a slim fit with neatly tapered cuffs. Wear them with dark sneakers and something smarter than your WFH tee and you’re good to go.

03.

The packable trench

We’re never not impressed by something that packs into its own pocket – if only we could do that when embarrassing moments in life happen, hey? This trench is cut from a lightweight nylon that’s specially treated with high-shine resin for a metallic, anti-drop finish.

04.

The technical jacket

Unexpected rain is no match for this jacket. It’s made from the brand’s performance Membrana 3L TC fabric that’s breathable and waterproof – tick, tick. The zipped pocket is pretty handy for keeping any essentials in, too. Another tick.

05.

The quilted gilet

It might take you a while to get fully on board with the idea of a gilet, but once you own one, you’ll be a convert. A lot of thought has gone in to this particular one, too. It’s made using a special weaving technique that ensures the essential down filling is distributed evenly. Clever.

06.

The chambray jacket

Currently totalling seven, Stone Island has recently released a curated series of chambray designs for summer – including this jacket. The versatile canvas fabric is washed to make it feel extra soft, too.

07.

The casual shorts

The fabric used to make these shorts is called Paracadute – it’s tightly woven and blended with a small amount of elastane to give a nice ease to it. It should go without saying that you’ll get loads of wear out of them over the years, from beer gardens to festivals.

08.

The baseball cap

Ah, the bucket hat’s sportier big bro. Made from signature metallic nylon, this baseball cap is detailed with the brand’s iconic compass logo embroidery. Please don’t wear it backwards.

09.

The practical pouch

Ready for another fabric name? This pouch is created using a textile called Mussola Gommata, which is printed to look woven and coated with polyurethane for durability. It certainly won’t fit the kitchen sink, but it is handy for storing your phone, keys and cardholder in.

10.

The joyful jacket

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. We just can’t get enough of bright, joyful colours right now and this turquoise jacket certainly isn’t for wallflowers. The key to making it work? Team it with darker shades – including your footwear.
