THE JOURNAL

Fresh styles to put a spring in your step this season.
The sun came out for approximately 12 minutes last week, which means spring must be on the way, right? Let’s hope so, because, as we all know, spring is a time for new beginnings, for flourishing wildlife and, more importantly, plenty of new pieces of clothing to invest in from the SS17 collections. This is a good thing, because the pursuit of a revitalised wardrobe on MR PORTER is a much easier exploit than, say, a hunt for a lesser spotted woodpecker. We do realise, however, that looking for new clothes can sometimes feel a bit tedious, particularly if the clothes in question are wardrobe staples such as shirts. So, we thought we would try to combine both activities to make things a little but more interesting. Scroll down to find out more…

THE SWAN
Graceful and elegant, with a studied kind of nonchalance, Dries Van Noten’s white shirt is the ideal companion for an ardent minimalist. Light and breezy, it is nonetheless a sharp choice when paired with suitably slick pieces such as some Isabel Benenato midnight blue linen trousers, and some chunky Marsell Derby shoes. The collarless design will allow you to stick your neck out sartorially (and quite literally).

THE PEACOCK
Bright, bold a little bit loud, this is not a shirt that wants to blend in (and we would expect nothing less from a collaboration between street-style king Mr Nick Wooster and the sprezzatura style of Italian tailoring expert Lardini). It is however, rather brilliant to look at and is sure to draw admirers wherever it may be. To ensure it sits easy on the eye, pare it down with neutral tones, such as the dusty grey of Brunello Cucinelli’s suede bomber jacket. Some deep blue Santoni sneakers will help ground the look further.

THE FOX
Not only is this shirt made by a brand named after the Japanese word for fox, it also shares some of the characteristics with the crafty creature. Cool, casual and streetwise – it is the kind of shirt that does well in edgy urban areas, for example, and it is ruthlessly adaptable. Feel free to dress it down by slipping it over a T-shirt – such as this one by British brand Sunspel – or smarten it up with some wool trousers and a pair of brogues.
