THE JOURNAL

How to give your wardrobe a refresh without spending all your money – here’s the blazer, chinos and sneakers you need.
“About time, MR PORTER,” you’re probably thinking. Yes, we know – we’re exceedingly excitable when it comes to new arrivals from the likes of Berluti, Tom Ford, Valentino et al, but we’re also aware that not everyone requires (or can afford) unsurpassable luxury from top to toe every single day of their lives (though that would of course be nice). So that’s why we’ve decided to help you out this February, by presenting you with a list of smart style upgrades for your new-season wardrobe that won’t immediately necessitate blowing an entire pay check in one go. Scroll down for this admittedly somewhat uncharacteristic edit:
THE LIGHTWEIGHT BLAZER
A blazer is an absolute must in every man’s wardrobe, and this versatile black jacket from Folk is a great investment piece for the months ahead. Made from a technical cotton-blend, the blazer sits at a happy medium on the scale of formality – it can just as easily be worn with jeans and a T-shirt as it can with a matching pair of trousers and a shirt. It was also designed exclusively for MR PORTER, so there’s less chance of an awkward same-outfit situation. Pair the blazer with NN07’s slim-fit, striped cotton Oxford shirt to complement the minimalist feel of the look.
THE HARDY CHINOS
Crafted in Italy, these high-quality cotton-blend trousers from Beams Plus are made from duck canvas, which is more tightly woven than plain canvas and therefore more durable. So then, these trousers can handle anything you throw at them, while their sharp, tailored shape gives them a clean, modern look. When it comes to shoes, we suggest this pair of white leather sneakers from Greats, who are known for producing high-quality Italian-made sneakers at a superlative-worthy price point.
THE TIMELESS TIMEPIECE
A great way to lift any outfit is to make sure your accessories compliment the overall feel of your look – no one wants to see extravagant man bling when you’re wearing a sleek black blazer. So, to keep in theme with the above items, we have selected two of our favourite accessories to complete every day outfits. First and foremost, you will need a watch. For this, we suggest Braun’s charmingly minimal BN0032 stainless steel model. Team it with this woven leather bracelet from Polo Ralph Lauren, to add a touch of sophistication to your outfit.
