Wear This Banana Bandana Kimono To A Summer Festival

14 June 2019

Midsummer looms. In England, those fortunate enough to have secured tickets to the Glastonbury Festival will shortly be grabbing their pop-up tents and heading to a farm in Somerset, where, if the fates are kind, it will rain all weekend long. (Can you tell that we’re vexed at having missed out?)

If you’re among the happy few who managed to successfully navigate the festival’s notoriously shaky online booking system, you might currently be pondering what to pack – that is, aside from the obvious essentials of Wellington boots,  and as much scrumpy cider as your arms can carry.

Any festival should be seen as an opportunity to dress up, and Glastonbury’s historic association with the hippy and counterculture movements of the 1960s and 1970s offers ample inspiration: if you can't indulge your inner flower child now, then when? And, as luck would have it, we’ve just got our hands on a kimono from  that fits the bill rather nicely.

It’s a sunshine-yellow version of the Japanese brand’s patchwork , which, as regular readers might recall, made an appearance in orange and blue a couple of months ago as part of MR PORTER’s exclusive Japan Edit capsule collection.

The best thing about it? Unlike most festival garb, it’s not destined to spend the rest of its life in an overstuffed garment  at the back of your wardrobe. Once it’s served its original purpose – ideally worn open with , wellies,  and an intoxicated grin – it’ll slot seamlessly into your weekend rotation. That’s how we’ll be rocking it, anyway, as we watch the TV highlights from the comfort of our warm, dry homes. Have fun everyone!
