THE JOURNAL

Cosy, comfortable pieces to keep your spirits up when you’re feeling down.
The dreaded cold and flu season is upon us, and it has hit the MR PORTER team hard. The aroma of Lemsip lingers heavy in the office, and it’s hard to find someone without a serious case of the “sniffles”– which is a deceptively cute term for someone who is simultaneously super contagious, and super annoying to be around. It seems only right then that we offer you a helping hand during this trying time. While your appearance may not be top of your agenda when you’re sick, looking good can at least tick the “placebo” box as you try to shift your ailment with every cure available. Below, we offer a few suggestions to help you feel a little better at each stage of your illness.
STAGE ONE
While many of you might instinctively reach for a trusty pair of sweatpants and your old tattered college hoodie when you’re feeling under the weather, we at MR PORTER believe that a dressing gown – only at home, of course – is a far better option. This grey robe from Soho Home is particularly nice: not only is it made from a super-soft fleece material, but it also has a hood for keeping your ears all toasty. Worn over a pair of soft pyjamas, such as NN07’s Sleepwell stretch-cotton set, it’s a practical alternative to walking around your house with a duvet draped around you.
STAGE TWO
You’ve managed to make it out of bed and onto your sofa. Congratulations on your first steps to recovery. You may be here some time though, so to help you through the long days of Netflix binge-watching that lie ahead, we suggest a blanket – Armand Diradourian’s cashmere travel blanket is a favourite of the MR PORTER team – and some soft cotton socks, such as this pair from Mr. Gray, to keep your toes warm when they inevitably poke out from underneath.
STAGE THREE
The worst is over. You’ve stopped sneezing and can hear, smell and taste again, so why not give your senses a pleasant treat? A “welcome back” gift, if you will. We suggest burning a scented candle, such as this one from Diptyque, and listening to some relaxing music on these Master & Dynamic headphones. It’s the perfect way to de-stress after a trying few days… and prepare yourself for the office tomorrow – only if you’ve shifted those dreaded “sniffles”, of course.
