The picks from the playlist of the tastemaking Parisian label.
To help celebrate our exclusive capsule collection with Maison Kitsuné, we recently descended on the Paris office of the brand’s co-founder Mr Gildas Loaëc to have a chat and a look around. As you might expect, we found some rather nice things. The gold plaque for Daft Punk’s 2001 album Discovery sticks in the mind (Mr Loaëc used to manage the electronic duo). As does a series of Mickey Mouse figurines by celebrated street artist Kaws. Of course we asked him about all this, as well as the new collection, a summery capsule focused on travel and embellished with prints of luggage-like stickers. (Read the full feature in this week’s issue of The Journal.) But since we also know that Mr Loaëc’s taste in music is as formidable as his taste in clothing – he runs a record label too, Kitsuné, which is renowned for unearthing new talent – we thought we’d take the opportunity to get some new listening recommendations. Check out the artists he’s currently got on repeat below.
PARCELS
“This five-piece funky soul band from Byron Bay, Australia, signed to the Kitsuné label recently. They’re very young – all 18 years old – but they’re one of the best live bands I’ve heard in a while, they’ve got the groove like no others.”
Listen to: “Herefore”
Ms Bo Rocha
“I don’t know much about Bo Rocha, but I love her name. She’s great and just released this incredible song. It sounds like what pop music should sound like, in my opinion.”
Listen to: “Hold My Gaze”
Ms TKAY MAIDZA
“Tkay is signed to the Kitsuné label. She’s from Australia. She is a bundle of endless energy – you have to go and see her perform live. She’s amazing!”
Listen to: “Ghost”
Mr Yung Lean
“Yung Lean is even younger than his name suggests. He’s a Swedish kid with an incredible style of hip-hop which is drop heavy. He already has a very strong following online.”
Listen to: “Pearl Fountain”
BoyBoy
“The name of the band is BOYBOY and the name of the song is Boy. This makes me smile. The bassline of the song is fantastic. You can listen to it on Kitsuné Hot Stream, our latest project currently available on all music streaming services.”
