Part of the style set jetting of to Italy for Fashion Week? Here are our Style Council’s must-visit locations in the city.
As anyone with a keen or even cursory interest in the business of fashion will know, on Friday, kicking off with the Ermenegildo Zegna show, Milan will take its turn to host the merry-go-round that is Fashion Week Men’s. In many ways, a Milan fashion week is the same as any other fashion week. There will be lots of people walking up and down showing off clothes of varying extravagance. And there will be Instagramming – lots of Instagramming. And this is before we even get to the shows themselves. Which are, of course, the reason any of us might be there in the first place. But that is not to say that looking at new collections for 10 minutes at a time is the be all and end all. There is lots of sauntering around, eating and drinking to be done. And, since Milan is seen as a more relaxed affair compared to its European counterparts, thorough research must be done to ensure you spend your downtime wisely. Below are the destinations our Style Council recommend most highly.

Carlo e Camilla
Milan is known for being a more classic and traditional fashion week, but Carlo e Camilla is anything but. In fact, given that it is located on the outskirts of Milan in a converted sawmill, it might be better described as “hip”. Why eat here? Renowned Italian Michelin-starred chef Mr Carlo Cracco is on the hobs, and his typically adventurous menus change with the seasons (naturally). So there are few better places to escape the scrum and enjoy innovative yet genuine Milanese food.

Where to drink

Bar Luce
Walking around trying to look stylish (but not like you’ve made too much of an effort, mind) can be thirsty work. It’s a good job, then, that negronis are ten a penny, and they’re inexpensive in Milan. But where to drink them? And what if you’re after something a little more refreshing? And let’s say you want to drink them somewhere stylish. The bar for you is this, located in the arts centre for Fondazione Prada. If it looks like it was designed by Mr Wes Anderson – that’s because, well, it was.

Where to stay

Palazzo Parigi
If you’re in Milan, whether it be for fashion week or simply a jaunt, you may as well make the most of it. Log off Airbnb, and tell your friends’ friend you don’t need their spare room – because you’re staying here, the five-star Palazzo Parigi. It’s decadent. It’s full of marble. And it was built on the site of the historic Palazzo Kramer. Oh, and the garden is something to behold, too. If you can get it on expenses – even better.
