Why All Dads Really Deserve A Nice Watch
Words by Mr Chris Hall
8 June 2021

What’s the best gift our fathers give us? OK, you might have thought it was that Swiss Army knife (just dangerous enough to be exciting) or Lego motorbike (who was that a present for, really?). But no, the answer we are looking for is time. Our parents give up thousands of hours for us – and of course they ask for nothing in return. However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give them something that shows we get it. With Father’s Day around the corner, indulge his watch habit (or start one – it’s never too late…). Plus, there are good odds your dad gave you your first watch, so there’s a nice symmetry there.

01.
The high-minded diving watch
We wrote about this watch back in December, where we admitted that our obsession stemmed from its name. There’s plenty more to like about the Polaris Mariner, though, such as its smoky blue dial and double-crown setup. Truly, the thinking man’s answer to the Rolex Submariner.

02.
The luxury watch box
You can’t amass a world-class watch collection without something world class to amass it in. This Brunello Cucinelli leather watch box is a home any timepiece would be proud of. With space for eight watches, it’s lined in the softest suede, ensuring a scratch-free life for your treasured pieces.

03.
The adventurous watch
Everyone should have a watch that feels solid enough to do absolutely anything, anywhere, no questions asked. That’s the Bremont Project Possible: it’s been up Everest (in fact, every peak above 8,000m), so, yeah, it can handle your next family ski trip.

04.
The on-the-go watch box
No matter how watch-obsessed you might be, three watches should really be enough to cover you for most situations (it’s why we started our Three Watch Wardrobe series after all). This Rapport London box is perfect for travelling – with one on your wrist and two in the box, you’re all set. We’d say one diver, one dress watch, one chronograph, but you do you.

05.
The customised watch
Last but not least, this is our pick for the man who has it all: if you’re buying for a seasoned watch collector, you need to step outside the mainstream. Bamford Watch Department’s customised TAG Heuer Monaco is a rare and characterful take on one of watchmaking’s true iconic designs.
