Lyle’s - Men's Style Council Place

One of a new wave of seriously foodie, studiously British restaurants run by intense young chefs, Lyle’s was a hot ticket when it opened in 2014 and remains just that today. It follows the St John ethos of ingredient-focused dishes, low on menu description, big on flavour (Old Spot, lamb’s lettuce and anchovy, for example), but adds a dash of Shoreditch edge – there are regular “residencies” from in-demand chefs, and it’s in a former tea warehouse.

While the menu is ever-changing, you can always rely on Neal’s Yard cheese to round off the meal.
