Great Britain’s Mr Andy Murray, 29, is in the form of his life having won a second Wimbledon title and a second Olympic gold medal this past summer. Now ranked world No. 2, he is locked into one of sport’s greatest rivalries with the seemingly invincible Mr Novak Djokovic. To mark the launch of Under Armour Sportswear on MR PORTER this week, we caught up with their top tennis athlete to ask him some important questions, such as who would play him in a movie, what song he sings in the shower, and what his favourite emoji is.

What’s your recurring dream?
It’s not a recurring dream so much as something I'd love to achieve in the game: to get to number one in the world. Novak Djokovic has been so consistent for so long, it will be really tough but if I can keep the form up from the last six months, then I will give myself a chance.

Name the app you can’t live without.
The Fantasy League app right now. Me and the team and a few of my family and friends have a couple of leagues. We all take it very seriously (probably too seriously). It requires a lot of close attention and management.
___
Who is captain of your Fantasy Football Team?
It’s important to make sure you have a player that plays a lot of games but also scores a lot of goals. Sergio Agüero or Harry Kane did brilliantly last season, so one of those.
___
What’s your breakfast of champions?
I’ll usually start by cooking myself some scrambled eggs, and making myself a fruit smoothie with lots of berries. Then I’ll probably have a bagel with peanut butter and some fresh fruit.
___
What’s your favourite emoji?
I do quite like an emoji – not sure if I should be admitting that or not. I quite like sending people stories using them. I once did a huge one on my Twitter on the morning of my wedding, which ended up going viral. If I had to choose though, I’d probably go with the “crying with laughter” one – a lot of banter flies around in the various group chats, so that one probably gets used the most.

What would your death row meal be?
Sushi, always. It’s not just a great recovery meal for me, it’s also my go-to whenever it’s available. If they were able to do Wholefoods tuna and avocado rolls with the spicy mayo on the side that would be perfect.
___
What’s the most surprising fashion item you own?
I have a few shockers in the wardrobe, but there’s a difference between owning surprising items and wearing them. People would probably be surprised to learn I have a lot of nice suits. Most of the time, people see me in match kit.
___
What’s your biggest extravagance?
I'm not too bothered by fancy things if I’m honest. I did buy a hotel local to where I grew up and renovated it recently, as it had closed down and was derelict. It has plenty of special memories for my family.
___
Name a place everyone should visit before they die.
Dunblane and the surrounding areas for sure. I might be biased but for me, there’s no place like my home, and there’s a lot of history in the area that people from all walks of life would find interesting. It has some of the best unspoiled countryside, and whether it’s flawless sunshine or driving rain, it’s a real place of natural beauty, and I’m so proud to have grown up there.
___
What’s the first thing you do when you get home?
Spend time with my daughter and my dogs. The hardest part of being abroad is being away from them, so as soon as I walk through the door, I usually have Sophia in my arms and the dogs on my lap.

What would you say to your 17-year-old self?
I’d probably just address areas that I wish I’d paid more attention to when I was younger. Things like be careful of what you eat, and to definitely make sure you work on your body physically as early as possible. I’ve been very fortunate to have had very few serious injuries over the years, and this is because I recognised the importance of strength and conditioning, but it’s definitely something I wish I had started to do earlier. I would also suggest some media training as early as possible.
___
How do you psych yourself up for a match?
I don’t actually do much to psych myself up before matches. I like to just stay calm and relaxed. I’ll go over my game plan with my team and coach, and then write down some motivational notes to myself which I’ll keep in my bag. Being on court and feeding off the crowd is all I need to get myself psyched up. It doesn’t matter if they are with or against me, a good crowd always helps gets me up for the match.
___
Which athlete do you admire the most outside tennis?
Muhammad Ali. From a young age I have been a huge boxing fan and Ali was always someone I would look back at and be in awe of how good he was. He was an incredibly talented boxer but also a brilliant showman. He worked incredibly hard outside the ring in order to stay at the top of the sport and that’s something I have always tried to replicate in my own life.
___
Who would play you in a movie?
Ewan McGregor: he’s one of my favourite actors and he’s also Scottish, so his accent would be pretty convincing in a feature film.
___
Song you sing in the shower?
Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars always gets me going, I know pretty much all the words, so it would probably be that, swiftly followed by Cheerleader by Omi.
___
If you weren’t a pro tennis player, you’d be…?
…involved in sport somehow. I had trials for Glasgow Rangers when I was younger and my grandfather was also a very good footballer. I loved playing football but it was tough to keep playing both and eventually I had to choose. My tennis was improving a lot quicker than my football so it was an obvious choice and seems to have worked out pretty well.
