Three New Pairs Of Grown-Up Sneakers

February 2018Words by The Daily Team

Lanvin’s cap-toe sneakers – bestsellers on MR PORTER – were an early example of high fashion tiptoeing its way into sneaker design. Before the French brand branched out into menswear in 2005, sneakers were the reserve of sports companies such as adidas and Puma, and if fashion labels put their name to a pair, it was usually in collaboration with such streetwear brands. Now, they’re all at it. Although we will always rely on the likes of Nike to power our workouts (and a weekend dash to the shops), brands such as Saint LaurentBottega Veneta and Tom Ford can bring a bit of sophistication and quality to our sneaker collection – especially useful, for example, if we want to wear sneakers with a suit or some smart trousers. To prove our point, we have highlighted three pairs of sneakers, new to MR PORTER, that fit this description. If you want to upgrade your sneaker collection, or get on board with the streetwear trend in a subtle and mature fashion, scroll and click, below.

If you thought Saint Laurent were only about leather jackets and Chelsea boots, think again. If these are anything to go by, it turns out that the insouciant French brand is a dab hand at designing sneakers, too. Invest in these olive-green suede sneakers if you want a mature upgrade on a simple pair of tennis shoes. They’re sleek and sophisticated, which means they’d work better dressed up with smart trousers rather than with casual jeans. This slim-fit woven pair by NN07 will do very nicely.
