What’s New: Acne Studios Takes Hiking Gear To The Next Level

Ah, adventure. Not something most of us have had the chance to experience lately, which is perhaps why it seems like such a delicious prospect. This collective hunger for the great outdoors is particularly palpable in our clothes right now, where Gorpcore – from “good ole raisins and peanuts”, ie, what hikers snack on to keep their energy levels up – is the overarching menswear trend of the moment. In real terms, this means fashionable men in London, New York and Tokyo are now dressing like they have joined their local rambling chapter, donning hiking shoes, cargo pants and ripstop jackets.

Which brings us to Acne Studios’ latest “Repurposed” collection, which is itself a lesson in how to dress for an expedition in style. Repurposed here means that the Swedish brand takes its approach to sustainability seriously, and so each season poses the question of what can be done with excess materials, challenging its design team to find new ways to create.

For the latest collection, the team took leftover nylon fabrics from previous seasons and reimagined them into outdoorsy trek shirts, shorts, neck-protecting hats and jackets that have been through an eco-conscious tie-dyeing process (the dyes are approved by the Global Organic Textile Standard) in trippy pinks, oranges and browns. Intended to be genderless as well as seasonless, it’s the third drop of Acne Studios’ Repurposed collection, and will be available exclusively through MR PORTER.

Overall, it’s a psychedelic bevvy of technical gear that will look the part whether you’re orienteering yourself up a mountain or just to the pub garden, and provides an optimistic vibe to getting dressed for the outdoors. Because even if we aren’t going anywhere exciting anytime soon, well, at least we can dress with a sense of adventure.
