What’s New: A Bottega Veneta Wallet That Captures The Moment (But Will Last A Lifetime)

We may be going out on a limb here, but the footwear on the end of the most stylish limbs right now – specifically the legs – is Bottega Veneta’s rubber sandal. Sure, you could think of it as a fashion-forward flip-flop, a more credible Croc or, indeed, an adult update of those jelly shoes that you once wore to the beach. Either way, this simple yet effective clog is turning heads this summer. (If not twisting ankles – it is surprisingly surefooted.)
With creative director Mr Daniel Lee at the helm, the Italian brand is enjoying something of a purple patch and setting the tone when it comes to trends. Although, if this cardholder is anything to go by, that tone isn’t purple, it’s a vivid blue.
The interlaced intrecciato leather is, of course, a trademark of Bottega Veneta. The brand may have recently made a name for itself with wide-leg trousers, fuzzy sweaters and, yes, rubber clogs, but this cardholder is something of a calling card. It is also perhaps a cheeky nod to Majorelle blue, the intense cobalt shade favoured by the artist Mr Jacques Majorelle and later embraced by designer Mr Yves Saint Laurent, who used it extensively in his sun-drenched Moroccan estate. (It’s worth noting, as you’ll see above, other colours are available.)
So, from the brand of the moment, and in the colour of the summer, comes an accessory that will only get better with age.
