Why you need Patricks hair products in the post-work bathroom-cabinet arsenal in your office desk drawer.
In an ideal world, we’d all have enough time before a night out to luxuriate in the bath with a pre-prandial G&T. But we live in the 21st century, where the insidious trill of an iCal alert is never far away. Invariably we’re rushing out for the evening straight from our place of work and need to get ready in five minutes flat.
This means that for many of us, the top drawer of our desk needs to double-up as a bathroom cabinet. Alongside the stapler and Post-it notes, we might have a toothbrush and toothpaste, a signature fragrance and some hair wax to help turn our look and our mindset from the working day to a night out. It is for this very purpose that Australian grooming brand Patricks created its Day And Night Styling Gift Box set of two different hair pomade formulations.
The best-selling M2 is a casual matte product for the day. But the S2 is designed with a little more shine for a dressier look. The brand’s founder Mr Patrick Kidd likens the S2 to a midnight-blue tuxedo. “In flash photography, a black tuxedo can look a little flat, sometimes grey, whereas midnight blue is more flattering and always comes out better in photos,” he says. “So it is with the S2 which is formulated to give your hair a little extra pop, but in a subtle way. It’s not greasy-looking or a wet-look product. It also doesn’t set – it’s remouldable.”
Getting ready to go out should involve more than just popping a breath mint and undoing your shirt’s top button. “Just two minutes in the bathroom fixing your hair can make all the difference,” says Mr Kidd. “It’s polite to show whoever you’re meeting up with that you’ve put in a bit of effort, but psychosomatically it also helps put you in the right frame of mind for a night out.”
Furthermore, both waxes have a light fragrance to them. “M2 is lightly scented with bergamot and sandalwood, and S2 has some neroli and cedar – a perfect day-to-night transition,” says Mr Kidd. “Their fragrances are not so strong as to clash with any cologne you might be wearing, but if someone gets up close, you will smell really nice. Your hair is a very effective diffuser of fragrance. You never know, if you’re trying to get lucky, it could help turn a good night into a great night.”
