Just In: Three New Things We Want This Autumn

We're not quite sure how we got here so quickly – it feels as though it was only about five days ago that we were shoving freezer blocks down our T-shirts in a bid to keep cool – but autumn has tangibly arrived and there is an unmistakable chill in the air. Which is no bad thing, of course. We may be saying goodbye to the lido, vitamin D and a general sense of ease and happiness for the year, but we are welcoming a raft of clothing and fabrics newly at our disposal. And anyway, how many men feel wholly comfortable wearing shorts, safe in the knowledge they don’t look ever so slightly like a schoolboy?

Today, hundreds of new items have landed on site, and we have picked out three pieces to help you fully embrace the new season.

This cotton-corduroy overshirt from our own label Mr P. comes in a boxy shape that will take on the new season, but is puckered like seersucker, so you can pretend it’s still summer. Plus, given that it can be worn as outerwear or under a jacket or coat, depending on what the weather is playing at, and comes in a mustard hue not a million miles from that of the fall foliage of New England, it is perfect for this specific time of year.

Alternatively, if you want something a little more substantial – but also fun – this intarsia cashmere sweater by Drake’s also caught our eye. It has ribbed trims for definition and extra warmth, and, more pleasingly, offers a 1950s silhouette. It’s probably a little shorter than your other sweaters, and all the better for it.

Lastly, at a time of year when the meteorological system is unpredictable at best and layers are more necessary than ever, you might be thinking about what you have to put said layers in should you take them off. Whether it’s for work or the weekend, this bag – by Japanese-meets-Americana brand visvim – will do the trick. It features contrasting faux leather, so will satisfy those of us who have a moral conscience to appease, but more importantly, it's made with abrasion-resistant Cordura, comes in a solid fern green and feels rather smart.
