THE JOURNAL

According to Google, the first day of spring is 20 March. So here we are, three days in. How are we feeling? Well, it must be said, the season could have gotten off to a better start. It doesn’t really feel like spring has sprung yet, does it? In our humble opinion, the only thing to do is to look forward to it, sartorially, with our fingers crossed. So today, we thought we’d present you with a slice of escapism in the form of the latest spring-ready pieces from our in-house label Mr P., worn with great insouciance in a beachside Malibu residence by the actor, painter and model Mr Miles McMillan.
As ever, our ethos is offering the right pieces at the right time, rather than asking our customers to throw out everything and reinvent their looks from scratch every six months. That’s why our current focus is two elements that can bring a zing to your wardrobe without doing away with the whole thing: colour and print. Since the launch of Mr P. in 2017, we’ve been keen on the process of garment dyeing – that is, immersing an entire garment in dye after it has been constructed, rather than dyeing the fabric itself, resulting in a deep, uneven colour – and this is how we’ve achieved many of the soft, organic and beachy tones in this spring drop.
Prints, which feature in fluid lyocell shirts and our new range of swim shorts, focus on colourful geometric patterns inspired by mid-century optical art and vintage kimono fabrics from Japan.
We’ve updated some of the classics – such as our throw-on Johnny-collar sweater – in sunny colourways but we’ve also added some key newness, from wide-leg chinos and Bermuda shorts in effortless stone shades, to a retro running sneaker in colour-blocked suede. Not quite ready to go into full beach mode? Perhaps consider the smart (and also easy) option – an ultra lightweight suit in navy seersucker gingham. Think of it as putting a very subtle spring in your step.
