At Watches and Wonders in Geneva this April, a couple of watches dominated discussion. But the other was a very different beast: the latest Odysseus from A. Lange &amp; Söhne.


The Odysseus is highly sought after thanks to its tiny production volumes, but since its launch in 2019, hadn’t really won over hearts and minds until now. What was new for 2022? An icy-blue dial colour, but taking most of the credit for this change in opinion is a new case material: titanium.


The ultra-conservative brand producing a watch in this most forward-thinking of metals has raised eyebrows, but it’s joining a growing cast of high-luxury watchmakers opting for lightness over the traditional heft of gold or platinum. Is this the future? Can titanium really take the place of precious metals?
