THE JOURNAL

To say those who frequent MR PORTER are positively spoilt for choice is, we believe, an understatement. A steady drip of fresh-out-of-atelier releases – propped up by a crack team dedicated to getting them in and out of our HQ at impressive speed – means that those leafing through our What’s New section will find themselves rewarded almost daily. February has been a month especially ripe with brand-newness in the form of hotly anticipated collabs, limited-edition capsules and rising stars to have on your radar.
Still, even we will admit that so much choice can leave even seasoned shoppers in a tailspin. That’s why, of the countless pieces that have spilled onto our shelves in the past week or so, we’ve picked out five of our favourites.
01.
The 1990s-style The North Face XX KAWS collab

With a pop culture-infused approach to collabs on everything from fragrance to breakfast cereal, American graphic designer Mr Brian Donnelly, better known as KAWS, finally leaves his mark on The North Face in this new collection dropping this week. The artist’s latest collaboration, is typically playful, updating the classic 1996 Nuptse jacket with graffiti print panels and that signature “XX” motif.

The pineapple-print Gucci T-shirt

The pineapple may be considered a divisive pizza topping these days but back in the 17th century, upon its introduction to Europe, it was the ultimate symbol of luxury. This may be why Italian powerhouse Gucci has gone to town on graphic pineapple prints this season. Or maybe, across shirts, shorts, hoodies and Jersey T-shirts, they just look super tasty.

The tie-dye AMIRI bomber jacket

Oh, did you think we were done with tie-dye? We’re extremely not and this AMIRI fleece is a perfect example of why. Earthy sunset colours, lush, high-pile fleece and leather accents combine to make the platonic ideal of a cosy tie-dye sweatshirt. It’s a little bit rock ’n’ roll, a little bit hippies in Malibu. Wear with jeans or hemp shorts, we won’t judge.

The elevated Wales Bonner track pant

New to the MR PORTER roster, British-Jamaican design prodigy Ms Grace Wales Bonner emerged on the menswear scene in the mid-2010s, fresh out of fashion school, and has since shored up her status as queen of the tasteful track pant. This crocheted pair is a prime example: they’re cut from cotton jacquard, feature a 1970s West Africa-inspired motif and deserve a far greater audience than your sitting room sofa.

The CELINE HOMME leather jacket

“Under this mirrorball is a psychedelic fortress of memory” says the back of this CELINE HOMME jacket. Whether you understand that already or are intent on working it out while you sport this 1990s-era silhouette, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is that Mr Hedi Slimane has done it again: crafting a piece we truly did not know we needed but now we’ve seen it, our sticky little fingers are itching to cop a feel.
