THE JOURNAL

The maximal Italian brand’s new collaboration with 1990s streetwear stalwart Fila.
Back in February, we were pleased to announce the arrival of Fendi onto MR PORTER. You can read more about the brand (which was founded in Rome, started out life as a fur and leather shop and has since become known for elaborate fur coats) here in The Journal. But today, we’re not interested in background. We are more interested in some brand new products from the Italian designer. And, more specifically, some Fendi products that you might find a little surprising.
Surprising, because these three items feature an arresting logo that runs throughout the SS19 collection. If you find it a little familiar, then we don’t blame you. You may well be thinking of clothes that you owned in the 1990s. Because this design was imagined by graphic artist Mr Hey Reilly who posted a mock-up of a Fila X Fendi collaboration on Instagram. Ms Silvia Venturini Fendi, creative director of the house, approved – as you might expect given every one is embracing (or actively working with) streetwear brands these days – and incorporated the design into some of her SS19 pieces.
Whether you approve, we can’t be sure. Fendi might be an acquired taste. And these pieces – perhaps even more so. But, if you want a bit of sportswear-inspired maximalism and don’t like to follow the crowd, then you could do a lot worse.
