Clippers and pumice stone at the ready: sandal season is here. But prepping your feet for public exposure is just the first step towards sartorial success this summer. Equally as important is what you choose to slip those newly buffed and conditioned tootsies into. Speaking of choice, we’re happy to report that there’s plenty of it around right now, from the usual rotation of classic two-strap Birkenstocks and 1990s-inspired action sandals to fashion-forward styles from the likes of Marni, Jil Sander, Gucci and many more. Looking for further inspiration? We’ve picked out five of our current favourites below.

01.
Sacai’s triple-stacked sandals
Feeling adventurous? This showstopper of a sandal from the cult Japanese designer Sacai’s SS23 collection features a web of multicoloured leather straps, a gold-tone toggle at the heel and a triple-stack of crepe, jute and EVA soles bonded to the footbed with a leather welt.

02.
JW Anderson’s bling for your feet
Northern Irish designer Mr Jonathan Anderson has a hit on his hands with these leather-and-cork slides, which are hard to miss thanks to the huge gold-tone chain links perched atop the leather straps. If you’re wondering how it’s possible to walk in them, don’t worry: they’re a lot lighter than they look.

03.
Marni’s plush logo slides
Marni has been on a hot streak recently with its wildly colourful collections, and this take on the classic pool slide is as quirky as you’d expect from the Italian brand. It features comfortable moulded-rubber footbeds and plush terry-cotton straps that spell out the brand’s name in green and blue.

04.
Gucci’s gladiator-punk sandals
Need to make an entrance this summer? Look no further than Gucci, which has given the gladiator sandal a punky maximalist makeover with extra-wide leather straps embellished with studs and red crystals. Not to mention fastened with gold-tone buckles.

05.
Manolo Blahnik’s cow-print classics
One of the most iconic names in women’s shoe design, Manolo Blahnik also does a fine line in classic-yet-contemporary footwear for men. These cross-strap leather slides are an apt example, starting with a timeless shape and dressing it up with an eye-catching cow-print material on the strap.
