Style Council member Mr Luca Venezia shows us where to eat, drink and groom in the city.
There are few cities as impressively on-the-pulse as Berlin. Boasting an incredible art scene, fantastic eating and a range of notoriously decadent after-hours options, it’s a place where trends are born, cultivated and disseminated far and wide. It’s no huge surprise, therefore, that it’s Berlin that Mr Luca Venezia now calls home. The musician and DJ – and member of the MR PORTER Style Council – who first made waves in the early 2000s for his breakcore work as Drop the Lime, currently records and performs under the name Curses, as well as curating music for TV, film and fashion clients (most recently Calvin Klein). Handily, though, he’s also got an encyclopaedic knowledge of where to go and what to do in his home town. As MR PORTER heads out to Berlin this week for our latest MR PORTER on Style event, we thought it as good a moment as any to tap Mr Venezia for his stylish recommendations. “For a city that has recently exploded with great new restaurants in the last five years, brunch is surprisingly difficult to find. Look no more, however – Papilles’ eggs benedict (with bacon – or salmon for a royale – on a freshly baked English muffin) is an excellent weekend recovery meal. The coffee and fresh juices are also on point.”

Where to pick up a slice
“Italian is a popular cuisine in Berlin, but Zola’s pizza is unique as it follows the true Neapolitan fluffy dough recipe, cooked in a 450ºF [232ºC] brick oven for a flash of 60 seconds. The ‘spinata’ is a standout choice with homemade burrata cheese and spicy salami. Definitely book ahead as this place is a busy one, especially in summer when the outdoor courtyard opens.”

Where to get your hair cut
“This slick establishment first launched in London as a web-series and barbershop and has now opened a two-floor location in Kreuzberg with a cosy café/bar on the ground floor. Personally, if you need a proper high and tight, beard groomed or just backs and sides cleaned up sharp, this is the only place to trust in Berlin.”
