Until recently, Ms Isabel Marant only made womenswear. Boho-inspired clothes have defined her cult label’s aesthetic for two decades and earned it countless plaudits over the years.
Just over a year ago, however, she unveiled her debut menswear line which, we understand, came about because so many of her male acquaintances were attempting to squeeze themselves into the womenswear. Now in its third outing, the SS19 collection is the best yet. The brand wanted to steer clear of anything too “proper” this time around, which essentially means the silhouettes are loose and nonchalant in a way that only a Parisian designer can pull off. Sounds good, right? We thought so. So much so that today we are welcoming the label to the MR PORTER ranks.
So, most importantly, what do the clothes look like? Just as the original line has distinct borrowed-from-the-boys qualities, certain elements from the women’s line have, in turn, been appropriated for the men’s SS19 collection. The free-flowing printed fabrics translate especially well to the relaxed T-shirts, for example, while the sportwear signatures have been blessed with a new, graphic logo for streetwear credentials. There’s also a subtle Americana theme that manifests itself via Navajo-inspired patterns, Western checks and a dusty colour palette, as well as a capsule of accessories (think cord bracelets and frayed-webbing belts) that complement the pieces well. In short, it’s easy, wearable stuff. Get your fill below and keep a close eye on What’s New for more to come.
