It’s Official: You’re Allowed To Wear Cargo Shorts Again

In news that will bring joy to those who couldn’t quite let go of 1990s, we are pleased to confirm that you can resume wearing cargo shorts again. Yes, those practical pocketed articles of summer clothing – unfairly slandered over the past few decades as the preserve of the perennial uncool – have made a welcome return to our wardrobes. Your thank you notes should be addressed to the Gen-Z TikTok crowd, who, last time it was safe to wear a pair of these, weren’t even in short trousers themselves. Here are five pairs to add to your wardrobe.

The classic khaki pair
As Incotex knows all too well, you can’t beat a classic. Opting for something tried-and-tested is also the easiest way to ease your way in to a new trend (or, in this case, an old-new trend). Made from lightweight fabric, they’re cool enough for sunny days, but still plenty hard-wearing.

The contemporary pair
Ms Nick Wakeman of Studio Nicholson recently told us that “good trousers” were the best way to elevate an outfit. Upon reflection, we think she’d modify her statement to include shorts, too – especially a pair as clean-cut and considered as these.

Given the pandemic prompted the closure of gyms, you’d be forgiven if you’ve made a habit of skipping leg day recently. Not that that’s the only reason to go for Moncler x JW Anderson’s nautical-inspired Bermuda-length shorts. Forgiving they might be, but longish styles are also making waves trend-wise this season.
