Five Bright Bags To Liven Up Your Wardrobe This Spring
Words by Emma Pradella
22 March 2022

Bold shades were in the midst of a resurgence long before this season. However, for SS22, the highlighter palette has showed its true colours. So much so that we’ve already dedicated a full report to why this season is set to be the brightest yet, with hot fuchsia, tennis-ball yellow and fuel-rod green popping up at Valentino, Prada and Louis Vuitton respectively. Maybe enrobing yourself in vibrant layers isn’t for you? No need to miss out on the trend entirely: there are plenty of accessories for those who wish to experiment with colour but aren’t quite ready to go all the way. We’ve browsed through our bumper crop of new bags to help you brighten up your outfits this spring.

01.
The sunny belt bag
Gallery Dept.’s founder, Mr Josué Thomas, is no stranger to colour – the multidisciplinary artist was known for his bold canvas artworks long before he established the brand back in 2018. And since he’s announced that Gallery Dept. will be folding soon, we have no doubt this belt bag, available exclusively at MR PORTER, makes for a smart investment.

02.
The hot-pink mini bag
We’re not sure what we’d fit in JW Anderson’s cap-shaped mini bag other than keys, AirPods or a cardholder, so consider this piece a conversation-starter – or a discreet way to wear one of this season’s most adventurous shades (we have plenty of other suggestions, too). Better yet, the shoulder strap is long enough to allow you to carry it cross-body.

03.
The sculptural messenger
CELINE HOMME’s SS22 Cosmic Cruiser collection draws on the 1980s underground nightlife scene that became known as the Second Summer Of Love. This solar-orange messenger – printed with the house’s contrasting emblem – is exactly the kind of accessory we’d imagine wearing to a cosmic rave.

04.
The practical backpack
LOEWE’s backpack sits on the functional side of things and maintains a relatively low profile, which makes it a good choice for the colour-shy gents out there. It’s made from sturdy canvas and embroidered with the house’s anagram – designed by Spanish artist Mr Vicente Vela in the 1970s – in bright-green threads.

05.
The reversible tote
A great example of the house’s leatherwork expertise, Bottega Veneta’s reversible tote (made from suede on one side and sumptuous shearling on the other) will work double-time in your bag rotation. The brand’s Blaster turquoise also makes a welcome alternative to classic navy.
