While there’s no doubt that seeing someone’s face as they open that handmade gift is a special moment, sometimes you just need to go all out. And what better time to spend big than in the season of giving? With that in mind, we’ve pulled together eight of the most show-stopping gifts to blow the budget on this year. From an Italian-made truffle-shaving set to the most handsome board game on the planet, these unashamedly lavish picks come with wow factor guaranteed.

It’s the perfect time to indulge their inner child, and what better way to do so than with a new model car? Amalgam Collection doesn’t just make your average model cars, though – and this 1:8 scale recreation of the Ferrari 375 Plus is a case in point. The original made history in 1954 in the Le Mans 24-hour race and Amalgam’s version is handmade using the exact same CAD designs. Each takes more than 400 hours to make and arrives with a certificate of authenticity – plus ,a clear display case to give it the showing-off it deserves.

Perhaps the easiest way to blow the budget this festive season is to opt for an unbeatable watch, and Jaeger-LeCoultre has delivered one of the best with its Master Control. This model offers everything you could ever want from a wrist piece and is the label’s first watch to combine a chronograph, treble calendar and moonphase. While the watch’s capabilities are undoubtedly impressive, let’s not forget that it also looks the part. Inspired by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s round watch cases from the mid 19th century, it arrives dressed in a gleaming rose gold and is finished with a chocolate-brown alligator strap.

Holiday board games may be a well-known recipe for tension – but who says they can’t at least be good-looking? London-based brand Alexandra Llewellyn is known for exactly that, and this backgammon set is arguably the most luxurious of them all. For one, the midnight-inspired board is crafted from three different types of wood and constructer using a marquetry technique. Then there’s the counters, which are fashioned from malachite and tiger’s eye, while the shakers arrive in a full-grain leather.

Budget-blowing and practical needn’t be mutually exclusive. As it happens, Brunello Cucinelli has crafted the perfect mix of luxury and function for the cold winter days post-Christmas. Behold the Italian label’s suede utility jacket, which perfectly encapsulates its history of understated elegance, while the tonal shearling lining guarantees it’ll keep you warm. All of the finishing touches – including its chocolate brown trim and tailored collar – only reinforce its splendour.

If your recipient is likely to be spending any of 2023 up in the air, then Métier’s portable chess set will ensure long-haul flights are never same again. As well as fitting easily into any carry-on luggage (it measures just 20cm by 20cm), it’s also built using artisanal techniques that mean every model is slightly different. That’s not all: the wood and leather set includes chess pieces inspired by 20th-century works of art, with built-in magnets so they won’t get lost in turbulence, and it can even be folded out into a backgammon board, too.

Everyone needs a good winter boot, and Christmas is the ideal opportunity to grant someone a brand-new pair. As you’d expect from such an historic label, John Lobb knows a thing or two about what you need. The brand’s Alder boot is based on a mix of classic Derbies and 1940s ski footwear from the extensive John Lobb archive. Meanwhile, its traditional design is complemented by luxury finishes, including faux shearling lining, polished leather upper and a slight heel.

At some point or other, almost everyone has received an unwanted kitchen gadget – some sort of cooking, slicing or pickling device that finds its way to back of the utensil drawer. However, those gifts could not be further from a dedicated truffle shaver set, which treats those eye-wateringly pricy delicacies with the respect and sense of ritual they deserve. This one’s the work of Lorenzi Milano, whose lifestyle wares are designed to elevate the everyday. Inside, you’ll find an ebony tray, a stainless-steel shaver and a mouth-blown glass dome that’ll keep your truffles at utmost freshness.

Gifting jewellery can be especially tricky. In matters of taste, it doesn’t get more personal – and that’s before you even factor in the age-old gold versus silver debate. Luckily, though, those questions needn’t apply to KOLOURS JEWELRY and its universally showstopping Spectra gold diamond necklace, which is modelled on traditional tennis bracelets and fashioned from yellow gold. However, it’s that glittering row of white diamonds that really help elevate an otherwise minimal chain into something altogether more extraordinary.
