THE JOURNAL

In between writing about all of these clothes, I also occasionally like to buy them, too (or at least lust after them). There’s no fun in harping on about nice trousers all day if you never wear nice trousers yourself, after all. So, I’m telling you about all of the brilliant things I’d like from MR PORTER, from a diamond-infused serum to a book about Star Wars. Link to a GoFundMe coming soon.
The shirt
I have a couple of Folk shirts. The fit and fabric are invariably great, and you can wear them in most situations. This one – note the sweet pattern – is part of a collaboration Folk has done with Mr Alfie Kungu, a young talented artist from Yorkshire.
The trousers
Story MFG. is one of my favourite brands at the moment. They are bafflingly, brilliantly sustainable (natural dyes, hand-spun fabrics and clothes that are made to be kept for a long time), and are run by Mr Bobbin Threadbare and Ms Katy Al-Rubeyi, who are also a couple (aww). These trousers, from the wide-leg silhouette to the organic cotton twill they’re made from are, in my estimation, a perfect pair.
The skincare product
I started using this 111Skin Celestial Diamond Serum about four months ago when I was road-testing it, and have been told my skin looks “glowing” about, hmm, 18 times? Not that I’m counting *cough*. It’s full of mad ingredients (hyaluronic acid, actual black diamond particles, and something called ReGeniStem) that work to make skin look healthier and smoother. Yes, it is obscenely expensive for something you put on your face, but hey, it works.
The sneakers
I’ve had my eye on these cartoonish sneakers from Acne Studios for a while. An interesting mix of colours, and a Velcro-strap style you don’t see about much these days (despite the lurch towards nostalgia that sneakers have taken recently), they’re the kind of thing I’ll wear every day. Yes, they’re a little bit Pokémon trainer, but I’m all right (OK, secretly pleased) with that.
The book
The Star Wars franchise might still be going strong, but give me Darth Vader, wampa caves and Mos Eisley ditties over Kylo Ren and cross-shaped lightsabers any day. What can I say, I’m a Tatooine traditionalist. Good job that we’re selling this book from Taschen, then, which delves into the Star Wars archive from 1977 to 1983 (the original trilogy). Also, tomorrow happens to be 4 May (May the 4th, if you will), and well, you know the rest.
