How athleisure and sport-luxe held court between shows at Paris Fashion Week .

Paris has always been the home to some of the world’s most renowned designer brands. But now, it seems, it’s also the epicentre of one of the industry’s most interesting developments: the crossover between luxury and streetwear. If this was hammered home particularly hard this on this season’s menswear runways – Mr Demna Gvasalia’s continuing innovations at Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with cult NYC brand Supreme providing the prime examples – it also was echoed in what people were wearing as they hopped between shows. (Never before, during a fashion industry event, has the MR PORTER team seen more football scarves, slogan tees, down jackets, tube socks and baseball caps.) The best outfits, naturally, managed to nod to the trend without diving too foolhardily into it, combining classic wardrobe elements with camouflage, denim, sportswear and more. Voluminous and lightweight, the parka is a garment that can be easily thrown on over almost anything, particularly if you’re not averse to channelling a bit of Mr Liam Gallagher’s style circa 1994. Here style blogger Mr Isaac Hindin Miller pays a nod to this era with his faded denim jeans and round sunglasses (held in the hand). And it works rather nicely. You know what I mean?

This man wasn’t the first to try out light-coloured jeans in winter this season. But he was, perhaps, the first to pair them with a camo-print military parka. Not a bad idea at all, it turns out – both military surplus garments and distressed, bleached jeans were sartorial trademarks of the punk (a key trend for spring 2017), and in this slightly more restrained configuration work as well now as they did then.

This ensemble looks so comfortable that it’s almost what you might describe as a “Sunday Morning Outfit”. Not exactly the sort of thing you’d expect someone to wear when hobnobbing with the great and good of the style world. But look closer and you’ll appreciate the strict colour palette – teal flashes on the sneakers harmonise nicely with the similarly coloured trousers, while both are brought down to earth by a more classic navy sweater. The beautiful brown leather jacket thrown on top, in a warm, contrasting brown, is what takes the whole affair from “pint of milk” to “backstage pass”, though.

This man could almost look like he’d just walked off the campus of an Ivy League university (presumably to go and do something much cooler than finals), were it not for the bright blue scarf (casually thrown over the shoulder, as were they all this season in Paris) and the focus on black, which gives the vintage reference a sharp, modern edge. Some people pull on their loudest outfits to get noticed, whereas others brave freezing temperatures just to pull the focus of street-style photographers’ lenses. Case in point: this man, who, in order to show off his green, black and white check overshirt has forgone the luxury of a coat. What a shirt though, eye-catching and graphic but with just a touch of a deep green tinge that works beautifully with his slim black jeans and fetching grey wool scarf.
