What’s New: We’re Quackers For Gucci’s Disney Duck Sneakers

From Donald’s naval rig (very Mr Jean Paul Gaultier) to Darkwing’s dashing cape, the Duck dynasty is not short of dapper drakes who know how to dress. (And we should know – drawn in by The Mandalorian, we’ve now completed Disney+.) But there is one family trait that puzzles us: what happened to their trousers?

The old adage goes that, while serene on the surface, below the waterline, the swan’s lower body is paddling frantically, literally doing all the legwork. The same cannot be said of the clothing worn by this clan of cartoon waterfowl, which is noticeably absent from the waist down. Even Uncle Scrooge, who, given his penchant for diving into bodies of coinage, could do with a bit of protection on his undercarriage.

What use Huey, Dewey and Louie, Donald’s perennially juvenile nephews, would have then for these sneakers by Gucci then is perhaps academic. Especially since the Florentine label was unlikely to have used a last that covers ducks’ cumbersome webbed feet. But if you, dear reader, were to dip a toe into the brand’s ongoing collaborative run with the house of Mouse, this is a good place to start.

Taking Gucci’s classic New Ace model, the anthropomorphic birds add something to the shoe’s simple silhouette, as do the contrasting blue heel tabs. And, as with the lineup of Junior Woodchucks on the leather upper here, it pays to have all your ducks in a row.
