THE JOURNAL

Wear your new blue shirt with pride – all profits from its sale go to the Father And Son Day partnership to raise money for cancer treatment. Styles include those by J.Crew, Officine Generale and Blue Blue Japan.
Insofar as general leisure pursuits go, shopping is not something that is generally considered particularly selfless. Yet, for a limited period this June, MR PORTER is taking a touch of the guilt out of the whole thing through our partnership with Father And Son Day, the charity set up by Messrs Daniel Marks and Jack Dyson in 2014. As we explained in The Journal last year, Father And Son Day is an initiative that aims firstly to get men talking about their health issues, and secondly to raise funds for pioneering cancer treatment institute The Royal Marsden in London.
For the next week, all the net profit MR PORTER takes from sales of a selection of blue shirts on the site will be donated to The Royal Marsden, which will use the proceeds to fund the training of expert new surgeons and counsellors to help people suffering with cancer. Given that the blue shirt itself is one of the most versatile and reliable pieces in a man’s wardrobe, we very much see this as a win-win situation for everybody.
Scroll down to discover three of our favourite styles from the Father And Son Day selection, and what to wear them with. Alternatively, visit our Father And Son Day page to shop the full selection of shirts – including our exclusive T-shirt capsule collection with Orlebar Brown – and purchase, safe in the knowledge that your money will ultimately be going towards the saving of lives.
BLUE CHIP
Come rain, come shine, come those difficult moments in the morning where you haven’t really thought about what to wear to work and need to make a quick decision, this button-down blue shirt from J.Crew will be your sartorial savior. Because it will basically work for any occasion. Keep it cool and smart with a pair of trousers in a deeper blue, such as this example from Danish brand NN07.
TRUE BLUE
The shades of blue found in Officine Generale’s latest exclusive capsule collection for MR PORTER are truly superlative. In fact, the brand’s designer worked with a range of Japanese textile mills to get them exactly right. The above shirt, which comes in a rich indigo, is one of the fruits of such labours, and will see you through a weekend walk with the optimum amount of style. If the breeze becomes a little bit too brisk, throw on an overshirt from British brand Albam (which, in its own capsule for MR PORTER, aims to cater specifically for the vagaries of British weather).
A BOLT FROM THE BLUE
We’ve already remarked upon the predominance of the camp-collar shirt this spring. So maybe it’s time to just give in already. This shirt from Blue Blue Japan is one of the most eye-catching styles on offer at the moment, embellished as it is with a surreal print featuring flowers and clocks. Wear it open, over a white T-shirt, and pretend you’re in Mr Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 classic Romeo + Juliet.
