Festival tips from the indie quartet.
When thinking about how to navigate the overwhelming hedonistic mini-city that is Glastonbury, you’d do well to listen to some seasoned pros. So, in our continuing series asking musicians for festival survival tips, we bring you the Mercury Prize-nominated indie quartet Wild Beasts, who will be playing their fourth Glastonbury this year.
Having graduated from the smaller stages earlier in their career, the acclaimed group from Kendal will be taking the sweet falsetto of singer Mr Hayden Thorpe to the Other Stage at 2.45pm on Saturday afternoon, their biggest platform to date. Here, bassist Mr Tom Fleming reveals the band’s festival wisdom.

What is your number one essential item for Glastonbury?
__
Honestly, a stout pair of wellies is preferable, but a positive can-do attitude is the only real essential.
What do you like to drink and eat?
__
I always seek out jerk chicken, though I accept that’s a personal quirk and there are a lot of good options. Drinks-wise, there’s nothing wrong with cans of lager left out in the sun, though you should back that up with plenty of water.
What’s your fail-safe outfit?
__
Cotton vest, jeans, wellies and a waterproof. That goes for city-wear too.
How do you make sure you don’t lose your friends?
__
The secret is not in prevention, but acceptance. You will see your friends in five days – live your story!
How do you handle the Portaloos and showers?
__
Again, the key is in acceptance. Prepare for the worst as you’ll usually find it, turned up to 11. Just make sure your reaction is laughter.
