MR PORTER catches up with the British menswear designer.
It’s not often that we at MR PORTER wade into that most turbulent and frou-frou stuffed of landscapes, the world of womenswear, but for Mr Erdem Moralioglu, founder and namesake of the much-coveted British brand Erdem, we have to make an exception. A member of the Style Council since its launch in 2011, Mr Moralioglu deserves almost as much praise for his own personal style – crisp, minimal, heavy on the black – as he does for his extravagant, flower-bedecked women’s collections, the latest of which, for AW17, he will debut today at London Fashion Week. (Though if you can’t wait for that, dear female readers, then why not check out the current selection available on Net-A-Porter).
As well as formidable style chops, Mr Moralioglu also has rather impeccable taste when it comes to art, photography and interiors – as demonstrated by the spectacular decoration of of his flagship store on Mayfair’s South Audley Street, which opened in 2015, the year of his brand’s 10th anniversary. And all of the above makes him a particularly wise person to consult when seeking out the most stylish locales and experiences for your travels. To do so, visit his Style Council profile, here, or scroll down to discover more about his essential clothes, cities and more.

What’s your…
… ideal vacation
At Christmas, I’ve been going to Tulum, Mexico, for a few years. I also love Formentera, Spain. But one of my best holidays has been to Japan; it was great to get lost in the back streets of Tokyo.
… favourite city
Paris! I'm there every six months and never get bored of it. I love Le Marais, the winding Seine, la Rive Gauche, the late-night bookstores – I love it all.
… favourite shirt
Charvet do a very beautiful classic men’s shirt – I would say they are the best.
… favourite jeans
A.P.C. jeans. I wear the Petit New Standard Slim-Fit style which fits perfectly.
…dream car
A 1970s Mercedes-Benz Pagoda in a dark mustard.
… favourite album
Björk’s album Post. It came out the year I graduated from high school. It was a revelation to me then and I still treasure it just as much now.
