Vans introduced its checkerboard in the mid-'70s when Steve Van Doren, son of legendary co-founder Paul, noticed his classmates' sketching tiles on the soles of their shoes. Part of its collaboration with Valentino Garavani, these sneakers are made from canvas and printed with the iconic motif, layered with 'VLogos' and bright-red spots.
