Lesser individuals would flinch from the challenge, but when an unknown associate (we can only assume) bet Mr Harry Styles that he couldn’t dress like both halves of a 1950s couple on their way to the Westchester County fundraising ball, at the same time, he rose to the task, horn-handled handbag and all. And what’s a guy to do when it’s still warm outside but you’re committed to that boxy silhouette? Life’s too short for shirts, baby.

A twist on a classic. Apologies for the cliché, but that is exactly the vibe that Mr Evan Mock brought to the TOM FORD show during New York Fashion Week this month with his matching pale grey trousers and rollneck sweater, lavender suede jacket and what appear to be black leather Chelsea boots. This is absolutely a look we’re used to, albeit in different colours (typically black, navy, brown). When we see it all here, worn expertly by the good-looking actor and skateboarder, we’re convinced that we don’t need to renovate our style houses completely every season. A simple redecoration will do.

MR PORTER is old enough to remember when comedy was the new rock ’n’ roll (although not old enough to remember when rock ’n’ roll was the new rock ’n’ roll). But theatre? Mr Jeremy O Harris isn’t even a performer, he’s a playwright, and arguably the most important one of our time, as we found out when we met him. His wardrobe, however, is very main character, in a very good way. There’s the flamboyance of imperial-phase Rolling Stones with a dash of early 1990s, 1970s-riffing Mr Lenny Kravitz, soft colours and textures jostling with rigid creases and lapels. Plus, that smile. This man certainly knows how to dress himself. OK, so, we all know how to dress ourselves. This isn’t pre-revolution France. We don’t have waiting staff to do it for us any more. Come to think of it, there’s a bit of King Louis XVI in the mix, too.

Here’s the up-and-coming actor Mr Jack Dylan Grazer at the Venice premiere of Dreamin’ Wild, a biopic in which he stars as one half of Donnie and Joe Emerson, a 1970s pop-funk duo who languished in obscurity for three decades before enjoying late success after one of their records was discovered in an antiques shop. (We know what you’re thinking: movie rights!) There is little danger of the outfit Grazer wore to the premiere – a dusty-pink suit jacket and wide-legged shorts from Dior’s SS23 collection – going unnoticed for quite as long. Bonus points for bug-eyed shades.

Hollywood top dog Mr Brad Pitt has made the cut on our best-dressed list fairly consistently of late. If there is one thing we have learnt, it’s that he’s a suit-and-sneakers kind of guy now. In July, he was promoting his movie Bullet Train in a slouchy linen suit and Gucci x adidas Gazelle sneakers. This month, he took the suit-and-kicks combo to the next level at the Venice International Festival, where he donned a black tuxedo and Core Black Gazelles. Pitt may be revolutionising red-carpet attire, but what’s the takeaway here? Perhaps that the 58-year-old father of six can get away with most (if not all) sartorial faux pas.

Pink and green are a colour power couple and Tyler, the Creator is here to remind us of that fact by not only mixing the two colours, but patterns, too. His bubblegum-pink grandpa-chic Fair Isle sweater paired with an auntiecore-esque boxy green bag – a shape he’s been favouring recently – look like a match made in retro heaven. And as he demonstrates here, you can play down the busy patterns by wearing neutral jeans and loafers. To top it all off, a green cap and silver jewellery, which matches the clasp on that little green bag.

The tones of Mr Seth Rogen’s Etro ensemble go together as well as, well, coffee and chocolate. If you follow the actor on Instagram, you will know that he is good with a potter’s wheel, but by teaming a dark double-breasted blazer with a pair of tan trousers, he reveals an understanding of the colour wheel, too. Going for the trendy roomier fit, Rogen’s relaxed separates are punctuated with a plain white T-shirt and black shoes for a truly smart-casual look.
