THE JOURNAL

Few logos are as recognisable a brand signature as Stone Island’s compass. More than just the brand itself – which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year – the circular insignia has come to represent a wider lifestyle, one that stretches from 1980s rave and football terrace culture all the way to the modern-day streetwear scene. And it’s hugely popular with celebrities, too: a quick scroll on social media reveals everyone from Mr Joe Jonas to Drake, Dave and Mr Brent Faiyaz donning the sleeve patch.
But beyond its ever-so-present logo, what makes Stone Island so covetable? Be it the industry-leading fabric research and innovation, the form-meets-function silhouettes, the off-kilter colour palette (or, likely, a combination of all three), the brand’s designs are never long for MR PORTER’s shelves.
With that in mind, and with a new shipment of the brand’s wares now available, here are eight AW22 pieces to pick up now.
01.
The quilted hooded jacket

Stone Island’s strength and success over the years lie in its pioneering textile research and development, the results of which can be seen in this jacket. Filled with down and coated with resin for a waterproof effect, it’s a smart investment for the coming seasons when temperatures begin to slide.
02.
The zip-up overshirt

Stone Island’s overshirt hits the sweet spot between lightweight outerwear and a shirt, making for a versatile layer to throw on when it’s still too warm to wear a proper jacket. The Naslan Light fabric it’s cut from makes it durable and resistant to abrasion, too.
03.
The essential hoodie

Not all hoodies are created equal, as this one from Stone Island illustrates. The ever-present sleeve patch stands out against the pale-pink jersey, a stylish and offbeat alternative to white or pale grey.
04.
The panelled overshirt

It may look like a standard corduroy overshirt at first, but look closely and you’ll notice Stone Island’s fingerprints all over it. Note the shell panels at the elbows, collar and sleeves. Again, the detachable emblem – a house signature since the 1980s – details the sleeve.
05.
The appliquéd sweatshirt

Stone Island’s sweatshirts are some of the brand’s best-selling styles, so we had to include at least one in our edit. Dyed a light turquoise shade, this cotton-jersey one is left unadorned, save for the unmistakable emblem patch on the sleeve.
06.
The quilted gilet

A gilet like this one is a great option when you need an extra layer. Filled with insulating down, it’s slim in profile so it’ll easily slip beneath an overcoat or even a blazer when you’re on your way to work.
07.
The garment-dyed cargo trousers

Stone Island’s colour laboratory has developed more than 60,000 different dye recipes over the years but, as firm believers of the “simple but effective” mantra, we’ve found the perfect pair of endlessly wearable, garment-dyed black cargo trousers.
08.
The easy shorts

Out with the sweatpants, in with the shorts. These ones are a smart choice that’ll help you to see out the rest of summer in style. They’re cut in a relaxed profile that hits around the knee and can be adjusted at the waist.
