You might think you know a city already, but often there’s much more to be found by digging a little deeper. The right restaurant or hotel can be a gateway to a level of local culture you weren’t previously aware of, but finding the best places often involves more than a scroll on Trip Advisor. That’s the thinking behind our series with the MR PORTER Style Council: to get some personal recommendations from men we trust on the best places to be in any given city. This week we’re scoping out Paris with renowned maitre d’ Mr Alireza Niroomand, who grew up in the City of Light, and tells us some of his favourite spots in the city.
Where to eat
Bar De La Croix Rouge

“Le Bar De La Croix Rouge is a casual eatery famous for its tartines. If you want to feel like a Parisian you must have lunch here. I recommend their St Germain tartine in particular. Ask for Gerard on my behalf – he’s a pillar of the Saint Germain scene.”

“The Bar Hemingway at The Ritz is a real classic, known for its cocktails and décor. Colin Field, the head bartender, is a piece of Parisian history himself.”
Where to stay

“If you want to feel at home in Paris, stay at Le Marquis Faubourg St Honoré. It’s a small boutique hotel by St Honore and is a pure delight. If you want something more happening I would recommend L’Hotel National Des Arts Et Métiers.”
